YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon returns Saturday

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon will return Saturday, marking the 46th year of the event.
More than 1,000 athletes and spectators are expected to take part in the race, which is sold out. Organizers are encouraging the public to come out and cheer on participants and to plan ahead for traffic impacts in the area.
The sprint triathlon will begin at 6:50 a.m., followed by the youth triathlon at 8 a.m. Both events will be based at Wrightsville Beach Park, which serves as the transition area and finish line.
Residents and visitors should anticipate changes to normal traffic patterns around Wrightsville Beach throughout the morning, including lane adjustments, limited parking near the event site, and increased pedestrian and cyclist activity. Event staff and local authorities will be on hand to manage the flow and ensure safety.
