On Wednesday New Hanover shutout Hoggard in boys soccer. We were there to see some of the action. The Wildcats will earn a league title if they can win on Thursday against Ashley. Four area volleyball teams will continue their state playoff journey on Thursday. In fact the Wilmington Christian squad has a shot at securing a state volleyball title this weekend in Greensboro. The football squad at New Hanover High is this week's WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance at Mayfaire Team of the Week recipient. New Hanover defeated Laney last Friday 35-21 to improve their Mideastern Conference record to 2-1. Full story...

We had quite an evening of high school football on WWAY's 5th Quarter. We showcased New Hanover's victory over Laney. We featured East Bladen senior Farrell Murchison. He broke the career rushing record for East Bladen Friday. Whiteville's Terrin Manning had 15 carries, 5 touchdowns and 330 yards on Friday. Plus more! Full story...

The football squad at Laney High is this week's WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance at Mayfaire Team of the Week recipient. Laney is currently 3-0 in league play in the Mideastern Conference with recent victories over West Brunswick, South Brunswick and Topsail. Full story...

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has confirmed that there were multiple ejections in last Friday night’s high school football game between West Bladen and Heide Trask. Full story...

Both West Bladen High and Trask High will likely be booted out of the football state playoff picture by the end of the week. Both teams likely see the handwriting on the wall due to a fight that occurred at Trask last Friday. Full story...

Week 8 of the high school football season is complete. As usual we had loads of coverage on the 5th Quarter with host John Rendleman and analyst Trot Nixon. Unfortunately one area game featured a brawl that resulted in seven player ejections. The list of playoff teams from our area just got reduced due to sanctions that will result from the multiple ejections. Full story...

With a 6-0 record Hoggard is on a roll in high school football. The Vikings defeated New Hanover last Friday; therefore, we stayed in town in order to present the Vikings with our team of the week award. Full story...
