2 NC, 1 SC school districts get US reform funds

Two North Carolina school districts and one in South Carolina are among 16 nationwide to land federal funds in the first time competitive federal Race to the Top grants have gone directly to local school leaders.

Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue has overturned the suspensions of four current and former New Orleans Saints players in the league’s bounty investigation of the club.

Azalea Festival moves concerts downtown to CFCC

Thousands more people will be able to enjoy the North Carolina Azalea Festival’s concerts at a larger location next April.

Organizers announced Cape Fear Community College’s parking lot on North Front Street across from the Schwartz Center will be the venue for the festival’s headliner concerts.

CFPUA reports 2,400-gallon sewage spill

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says crews responded to and repaired a spill from the sanitary sewer system yesterday. Approximately 2,400 gallons was discharged, which flowed directly into the City of Wilmington Storm Drain system and then into the Cape Fear River.

Stephens will coach the softball team at SECC. She’ll also be a physical education instructor. Monday was a light night for high school hoops, but we still managed to find action on the hardwood.

Wake Forest U. awards $1M to study virtue, vice

A program at a private North Carolina university is giving nearly $1 million to more than a dozen theologians and philosophers in the U.S. and Great Britain who study the essence of human character.

Wake Forest University said Monday the effort to better understand virtue and vice called The Character Project has awarded 16 grants to scholars.
