Pleasure Island Jeep Jam hosting ‘Go Topless Day’ to benefit 3 local charities
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — This weekend, Pleasure Island Jeep Jam will be hosting its fourth Go Topless Day Jeep event to raise money for Ocean Cure, Friends of Pleasure Island State Parks and Little Pink Houses of Hope.
Barricade, a company that builds aftermarket off-road Jeep Wrangler parts, started Go Topless Day 17 years ago. Today, it’s a worldwide tradition for the Jeep community to celebrate the start of Summer by taking off their Jeep tops and enjoying an afternoon of driving with like-minded Jeepers, all while raising money for local charities.
There are actually 20 events taking place across North Carolina, with the Pleasure Island Jeep Jam being one of the largest in the state.
Activities start on Thursday, May 16 and run through Saturday, May 18 with the main Go Topless Day event on Saturday May 18 starting at 10 a.m.
The event on Saturday will be at the Fort Fisher State 4×4 Beach. Click here for the full event schedule.
There will be lots of vendors, sponsors, food trucks, music, raffle prizes, cornhole tournament, volleyball, poker run, after parties, a beach crawl, “Best of the Beach” competition, duck races and Go Topless Day on the sand. Organizers say it’s a great way to spend with the Jeep community and make new friends while raising money to give back to the area.
Pleasure Island Jeep Jam has donated to a few other charities over the past few years raising $30,000 to date, but these three have made direct impacts to their local Pleasure Island community. Ocean Cure has worked hard to make our beaches some of the most wheelchair friendly on the east coast. During an annual retreat for cancer warriors and their families hosted by Little Pink Houses of Hope, their Jeep community provides sunset beach rides to the participants. Friends of PI State Parks work hard to preserve and protect their wonderful beach resources.
