NC Doctor encourages families to cook with their kids for Thanksgiving
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Here’s a fun idea to take some of the pressure out of making that big holiday meal.
North Carolina emergency and lifestyle Doctor Ritu Saluja-Sharma believes Thanksgiving is a great time to cook with your kids!
This activity creates and reinforces a positive relationship with food.
The preparation doesn’t have to be perfect.
“Thanksgiving is meant to be joyful, not restrictive. So, I teach people that food has the potential to be our most powerful medicine, and that it’s really the lifestyle choices, the diet and lifestyle choices that we make every day that help to support our health,” Dr. Saluja-Sharma.
Saluja Sharma has written the children’s book “The Wonder of What We Eat.”
She says we can make a lasting impression on our kids at Thanksgiving, by including a colorful, nourishing vegetable, and making healthy swaps like substituting almond for all-purpose flour.
