Emergency boil water advisory issued for parts of Cheyenne Trail area

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) has issued an emergency boil water advisory effective immediately Monday, April 20, following a water main break affecting parts of the Cheyenne Trail area.
Utility crews are currently on site working to repair the break and restore normal water service as quickly as possible. Officials say approximately 80 customers are impacted.
The advisory applies to the following areas:
- 101 to 221 Cheyenne Trail
- 101 to 229 Navaho Trail
- The 100 and 200 blocks of Apache Trail
CFPUA officials warn that periods of low or no water pressure can increase the risk of contamination due to possible back siphonage, which may introduce bacteria into the water system.
Residents in the affected area are advised to boil water for at least one minute and allow it to cool before using it for drinking or consumption. Bottled water may also be used as an alternative.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, washing fruits and vegetables, pet consumption, and preparing baby formula. Water used for bathing or showering does not need to be boiled.
The advisory will remain in effect until CFPUA completes water quality testing and confirms the system is safe. Officials say customers will be notified once the advisory is lifted.
