Decreasing shower chances expected throughout the day

Rain Chances
WWAY

(WWAY) — A rainy start to the day in the Cape Fear as temperatures return back into the upper 80s.

It will be warmer and more humid day today as high pressure starts to take control. A few showers or a thunderstorm is possible… mainly in the morning. Otherwise mostly cloudy skies in the morning will give way to increasing afternoon sunshine with a high in the upper 80s. We expect hot and humid weather Thursday with no rain relief expected as highs reach the mid 90s and afternoon heat indices reach from 103-107. An incoming cold front will combine with tropical moisture… the remnants of PTC 1 which could briefly develop into a tropical storm along the western Gulf coast before weakening and moving inland late this week. This will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday with rather hot and humid highs in the lower 90s. The remnant moisture and front exit this weekend as drier air builds in behind it along with weak high pressure. Look for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs on Father’s Day reaching the lower 90s. Sunday also marks the 1st day of summer… the summer solstice! A slight chance of showers or thunderstorms returns next Monday with sunshine and clouds mixed and highs in the lower 90s.
