ASPCA schedules adoption events for 600 rescued dogs, cats
SANFORD, NC (AP) — ASPCA officials say hundreds of animals seized from an unlicensed no-kill shelter in Hoke County are ready for adoption.
Tim Rickey of the ASPCA tells the Fayetteville Observer (http://bit.ly/1OWCCt0) that the 696 animals seized in January from The Haven-Friends for Life shelter were surrendered to the ASPCA on Thursday. He says Stephen and Linden Spear have agreed to turn over the dogs, cats, birds and horses to the ASPCA.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has scheduled an adoption event for more than 600 dogs and cats on March 18-20 at the temporary shelter in Sanford.
The Spears were charged with animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance, stemming from an animal medication not authorized on the property. Their next court date is April 20.
