Beachgoers beat the heat with shade, surf, and sweet treats in Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — People in Carolina Beach were trying to find ways to stay cool Saturday with heat indices reaching triple digits. 

With an extreme heat warning in place this weekend some took to the beach and pools while others satisfied their sweet tooth with ice cream.  

The beach was lined with people placing shades and hanging in the ocean to find some relief from the heat.  

Vacationer Mark Burns took a break from the beach and went to Fun Time Ice Cream to grab some lunch. 

He says it’s important to find ways to stay cool on weekends like this. 

“Eight o’clock this morning I went down to the beach to set up the cabana. Load the cooler up with water and ice typically. Then in the evening maybe some ice and beer,” Burns chuckled before going on to say, “but just get some shade and a lot of fluid for sure.” 

 Burns says he also enjoyed the pool and swam in the ocean to stay cool.
