Brunswick County man pleads guilty after shooting deputy

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY NEWS) — A Brunswick county man is headed to prison for shooting at a sheriff’s deputy.

Jan Sides, 60, pled guilty earlier today to assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.

He was originally charged with attempted first degree murder after the deputy was investigating a complaint of shots fired at a residence on plantation court in September of 2023.

Upon arrival, shots were fired at the deputy, who shot back, hitting sides twice.

He was sentenced to at least four years in prison.
