Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens plans holiday market and open house

The event Dec. 9 features more than 35 arts and craft vendors, food, live music and evening tours of Wilmington's oldest historic site

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Holiday shoppers will have their pick of unique items and one-of-a-kind crafts at the Dec. 9 holiday market at the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens in Wilmington, NC.

Assistant Director Hunter Ingram stopped by WWAY’s Good Morning Carolina to preview the weekend market and open house with co-host Donna Gregory.

“In the morning we have our holiday craft market, so we have about 35 local vendors with all kinds of different things spread throughout the gardens — and then we also have some tucked away in the visitor’s center and back courtyard,” Ingram explained.

“There’s so many opportunities to come and shop local at Wilmington’s oldest historic site,” he said.

“We have wood makers, candlemakers, we have jewelry makers, we have everything– art, we cover every base,” Ingram added.

The market runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens, 224 Market St. in Wilmington, NC.

The museum itself is all dressed up for the season, and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., guests can interact with people in authentic period costumes at the holiday open house.

“On Friday, the Colonial Dames will come in and they will dress the house in complete fresh greenery and fruit as it would have been in the 1800’s,” Ingram revealed.

“And then on Saturday, guests are welcome to come through.  It’s a drop-in event so you don’t have to come right at five,” he said.

“Throughout the gardens there will be all kinds of dressed interpreters, arts and crafts, historical demonstrations, there’s so much happening!”, Ingram added.

“You can come right at 5 p.m. if you’d like, or you could go get some dinner first downtown, and stroll in about 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. — you’re not going to miss anything if you come in at 7 or 8 p.m.,” he said.

There is no admission charge, but donations are always welcome and they go directly to support upkeep and maintenance at the Burgwin-Wright House.
