CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Beach Mayor has declared a state of emergency as rain continues to fall in the area related to a potential tropical cyclone.

Carolina Beach Mayor Lynn Barbee posted on Facebook just before 11 a.m. on Monday saying he issued the emergency declaration after speaking with town staff, council, and the town manager.  This will enable additional resources for the area.

Barbee said he also spoke to Representative Charlie Miller and Senator Michael Lee. They have both offered assistance.

Town first responders are asking everyone to please stay off the roads if at all possible.

“Those picking up your kids from school, don’t let your anger cloud your judgement, don’t drive thru the water!  It is not worth it.  When you get home, stay home until this lets up.  Water rescues, fire calls, etc, have emergency services loaded.  Don’t make it worse.  Stay safe please,” Barbee said.

Barbee said if you need help, call 911.  He also said an emergency operations center is open.

Barbee said there is 18” of rain at fire department and other weather stations are reporting more.
