Carolina Beach’s Freeman Park reopens

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) – Freeman Park, in Carolina Beach, reopened Saturday morning in after it shut down due to the storm.

The expected higher than normal tides and wind from tropical Ian caused town officials to close it to the public on Thursday.

Anyone planning on heading out to the park or anywhere else in Carolina Beach, keep in mind that paid parking has resumed.

The Town of Carolina Beach was awarded about 4 million dollars from the North Carolina Land and Water Fund to preserve Freeman Park.

The grant proceeds will pay off the remaining debt from the April 2022 town purchase.

The funds from this grant include the preservation of the more than 300 acres of natural coastal space for future generations to enjoy for educational and leisurely purposes.
