CFPUA warns customers about potential scam calls

CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says they are aware of a potential phishing scam targeting customers.
Customers reported receiving a robo-call claiming to be from CFPUA’s Fraud Prevention Department and asking for personal information.
CFPUA says these calls appear to be coming from their main number but are being made using spoofing technology.
CFPUA reminds customers that they do not have a Fraud Prevention Department and will never ask anyone to make a payment via gift card, bitcoin, or other non-standard payment method.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call is told to hang up immediately.
