Columbus County opening four emergency shelters Wednesday

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — To prepare from impacts from Tropical Storm Debby, Columbus County is activating its Emergency Operations Center and opening four emergency shelters on Wednesday.
The shelters will open to the public at 3:00 p.m.
They will be at the following locations:
- Edgewood Elementary School (Pet friendly) – 317 E Calhoun St, Whiteville
- West Columbus High School – 7294 Andrew Jackson Hwy SW, Cerro Gordo
- South Columbus High School – 40 Stallion Dr, Tabor City
- East Columbus Jr./Sr. High School – 32 Gator Ln, Lake Waccamaw
Bring medicine, oxygen, or any other essential items that you may need while at the shelter.
If you live in a flood prone area or an area that has flooded in the past, please make plans for sheltering in place or evacuating before the storm arrives.
Emergency Services will operate until 40 mph sustained winds. For all non-emergency storm related issues or questions you can call the Columbus County Emergency Operations Center Storm Line at 910-640-2208 – this line will be activated starting at 12 pm Wednesday.
