East Columbus Girls Basketball state championship preview

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — Our sports fans all know how successful the East Columbus Girls Basketball team has been this year and Friday, they are chasing immortality.
The Gators have earned the trip to the 1a state championship game that will be played at 6pm at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. It’s the best season in school history; the team is 26-1 to this point and has won 18 games in a row.
They hope to make it 19 in a row against Cherokee, who is 28-1 so far and is the #3 seed in the west. Like East Columbus, who is the #3 seed in the east.
To be doing this well, you may think the team has a lot of experience. This isn’t necessarily true, as the gators only have 4 seniors and head coach LaToya Brown is in her first year as head coach.
Brown said the team possesses multiple things that have been able to get them to this point.
“Just the will, the drive, the effort, the summers, the tournaments, just literally everything. Especially my coaches, trainers that had hands on my girls,” Brown explained.
This would be the East Columbus Girls Basketball teams first ever state championship if they were to win.
