Educators, parents and caregivers in New Hanover County discuss solutions during the current Adderall shortage
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A panel of guests in New Hanover County discussed the Adderall shortage and different methods to help children who may suffer from ADHD.
The New Hanover County Schools Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion hosted an event at the county health and human services building. A panel of guests including parents, caregivers, and educators discussed various ways to help combat the shortage from different perspectives. Ideas such as different medications, coping skills and using Adderall more strategically when there is only a limited supply available for children.
Kirsten Kainz, one of the facilitators of the panel said despite the shortage, its important for people to know their options.
“The schools are here to partner with parents and there are resources available in the schools. We’re connected as a community, we can support each other. There are a lot of resources, let’s start talking with one another.”
Some of the other options for children discussed included open discussions with educators about their disorder, diet or holistic lifestyle changes and different medication or dosages for different ages.
