Family seeks help after flooding damages home
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — For the past five days, rain has fallen in the Cape Fear and two of those days produced historic rainfall.
Several inches of rain falling over this short period of time has brought poor drainage areas to the surface.
For example, a home in Brunswick county is dealing with the direct impacts from that.
Yards are still damp and there is still some ponding on the roads from the last few rainy days, but the rain has caused one family’s life to change.
Water rushed in and flooded Jason and Kellie Gore’s entire backyard and the main portion of their home this weekend.
“We have no running water, we can’t flush the toilets, and we have no electricity,” Kellie Gore said.
They say they have had water in their backyard before, but not nearly waist deep like it was Monday.
She says since they have had issues before they did what they could to prepare, but she says there was no way of stopping the rain this time.
Kellie and her kids are forced to sleep somewhere else.
Gore says they have four pumps they are using to get the water out of their home.
“We just want the water out of here, Gore said. “We will have to tear everything out once it does that way it doesn’t accumulated any mold so we can get back in here eventually if we needed to, but at this point we have no other option but to leave.”
She says it’s not only them, but the whole neighborhood. Gore says they hope to get help, so they can figure out how to fix it.
“At this point we know it’s a losing battle until they address the problem behind this,” Gore said.
They want the water out and to get their lives back to normal especially for their kids.
“I don’t want them to have to worry about coming home to water.”
She says it could take four or five days to dry out the house and up to a monthly before they see their grass again.
