Farm Bill leads to CBD stores popping up in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cannabidiol or CBD seems to be all the rage lately.
But what exactly is it supposed to treat, and how effective is it?
‘Your CBD’ is the second cannabidiol shop to open in Wilmington since the start of 2019.
Back in December President Trump signed the Farm Bill, legalizing hemp-based CBD in all 50 states.
“There’s a lot of misconception, I think, in society right now about what CBD is,” said store operator Cody Neltner. “A lot of people link it to marijuana.”
Hemp, part of the cannabis family, contains only trace amounts of THC. THC is the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
“.3 percent or less, I always compare it to, you think about like non-alcoholic beer,” said Neltner.” Non-alcoholic beer is non-alcoholic, but it still has .5% in it.”
‘Your CBD’ in Wilmington is one of 140 franchise locations in 27 states. Neltner says he got into CBD when he saw how it helped his dad’s chronic knee pain.
“We’re able to get people off of these opioids, these antidepressants, pain medicines,” said Neltner. “Maybe not completely off, but maybe lower their dosages on it, get them off it a little bit.”
Neltner says there are a lot of different types of CBD products on the market, manufactured in different ways. So do your homework.
“Look at the ingredients, and look at those things on how it’s extracted and the different processes that it has,” said Neltner.
Neltner says their products range from about $10 to $300, and invites anyone to come try before they buy. They also carry products for pets.
