Father says son denied transplant for pot use

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (KSL/CNN) — Up until Thanksgiving, Riley Hancey led a pretty normal life for a Utah teenager. Then a severe form of pneumonia hit.

Hit lungs collapsed. Doctors said he needed a double lung transplant. But the University of Utah hospital refused to do the surgery.

“He’s an avid skier, river runner, biker… enjoying life to its fullest,” said Riley’s father Mark Hancey.
