“Showing the type of guy that I am”: Former Laney football player Alfahiym Walcott speaks on invite to NFL rookie minicamp
Walcott graduated from Laney in 2018 before playing for Baylor and Arkansas
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – A former Laney standout did not near his name called during NFL draft weekend, but Alfahiym Walcott still has the chance to keep his NFL dream alive.
The former Buccaneer has been invited to rookie minicamp for the Buffalo Bills . After graduating from Laney in 2018, Walcott went to play defensive back for the Baylor Bears and then the Arkansas Razorbacks.Walcott will leave for camp this Thursday as camp begins this weekend in New Jersey. Walcott said he’s excited to get the chance to prove himself at the professional level.
“Pretty much just getting to know all the coaches, all the players really building a connection with the people in the building. Showing how I could help them on the team, whether that be special teams or a role player. However, and just showing my face showing the type of guy that I am really.”
This year for Arkansas, Walcott finished fourth on the team with 56 tackles and had three interceptions, including one for a touchdown. The Razorback pass defense ranked 32nd in FBS. The Hogs allowed just 202.8 yards per game.
Walcott said he appreciates all the love and support he has received from his hometown of Wilmington.
