Former UNCW baseball player being promoted to Majors

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A former UNCW baseball player has been called up to the Majors.

Greg Jones will join the Rockies in St. Louis as they take on the Cardinals.

When he makes his MLB debut, Jones will be the 14th UNCW baseball alum to reach the big leagues.

Jones was the highest draft pick in UNCW baseball history when he was selected 22nd overall by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019.

He batted .341 with 9 home runs and 57 RBI that season with the Seahawks.

Jones was traded to the Rockies organization before the start of this season.
