Future UNCW golfer wins HV3 Boys Invitational hosted by LIV Golf’s Harold Varner III
GASTON COUNTY (WWAY) — 18-year-old Ethan Boyette will be attending UNCW to play golf next fall, but he’s wasting no time in showing his potential.
Boyette won the HV3 Boys Invitational this past weekend, a tournament held by LIV Golf’s Harold Varner III who was raised in Gastonia and played golf at ECU. Winning the tournament was a big deal for Boyette, and so was getting to meet a professional golfer.
“I know Harold Varner was putting it on, I know he loves giving back to the junior golf community so, I wanted to defiantly be a part of that. He loves giving back to junior golf, so he’s a very down to earth guy. You kinda hear a lot about him that he’s a very nice guy and that’s exactly what you get,” Boyette said.
The tournament was held at Gaston Country Club and Cramer Mountain Club, where Boyette shot a 69 at Cramer and a 70 at Gaston.
His mindset during tournaments is something that he’s incredibly focused on, and something he hopes to provide for the Seahawks next season.
“My mindset really is to just stay in every shot. If I could just commit to each and every shot, not doubt myself and almost just attack the pin when I can, when it’s a smart decision. I always feel like I have a really good chance when I’m committed to every shot,” Boyette explained.
Boyette says he looks forward to freshman year at UNCW and what we can contribute to the team.
