Get ready for Election Day: Voting options
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– With Election Day approaching, it’s crucial to ensure you’re registered to vote. If you’re already registered, you have several options for casting your ballot.
Some citizens, like Michael Rivette, prefer to vote in person:
“Our precinct is right here at Town Creek. I just live a couple of miles away, so it’s really easy for me to come down and vote. It’s something I believe everyone should do.”
Others, according to Board of Elections Director Sara Lavere, choose to vote early:
“All counties in North Carolina have early voting locations. Voters can go to any open early voting location in their county, regardless of where they live. This is different from Election Day voting, where you must go to your assigned polling place.”
You can also opt for mail-in voting. To request an absentee ballot, visit your county’s Board of Elections website.
When you’re ready to vote, you’ll need two witnesses, both at least 18 years old, to observe you casting your ballot.
Additionally, you must include a copy of your photo ID when you return your ballot.
Lavere explains what Brunswick County voters will receive in their absentee packet by mail:
“When you get your packet, it will include all the information about photo ID requirements. There’s a form where you can state your name and the reason you can’t provide an ID. The packet provides clear instructions on how to complete this form.”
Regardless of how you choose to vote, just make sure you do!
Don’t procrastinate—ensure your mail-in ballot is sent in time to be received by the Board of Elections by November 5th.
If you still need to register to vote, you can do so online through the DMV.
Remember, the deadline for voter registration is October 11th.
