Hampstead community lights up for the holidays with beloved tradition

HAMPSTEAD (WWAY) — One of the signs that the holidays are here is when a special lighting display comes to life in one Pender County community.

The tradition of Lake Linda’s Christmas Lights began a dozen years ago, with a small lights display that has grown annually since.

“It started as something very small; my husband wanted to make our Christmas lights dance to music, and he always enjoyed making his own decorations and putting them out,” explained Tonia Register, wife of ‘Head Elf’ Mike.

The lights are on from 5:30pm to 10pm, seven days a week, from Thanksgiving night until New Year’s Eve.

Lake Linda’s is a non-profit organization.

The event is free, but they do accept donations for Toys for Tots, and monetary donations to help keep the lights’ shining.

This year, they are also accepting donations of infant items for new mothers in need.

You can drive through, or walk through, the display.

“We just want everyone to have some fun,” added Register.

Lake Linda’s is located at 218 Old House Road in Hampstead.

And, don’t forget to turn your radio to 89.5 FM to sync the music with the lights.
