Humpday Health: Summer camp

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Summer is in full swing, but just because the kids are out of class doesn’t mean they need to sit inside and play video games all day long.

“We talk about it a lot, everybody talks about how the video game era has kinda come around,” said assistant baseball coach Robbie Monday. “Instead of being out in the yard playing, you know for us when we were little we’re tossing up rocks and hitting them with sticks and now guys are playing that on their Xbox or Playstation.”

Kids of all ages and all ability levels were out on the baseball field over at UNCW brushing up on their skills and just playing outside.

“I like inspire them to play sports and stay healthy because I just love sports,” said 14 year old Rainier Morales.

“Get out and do something that you really love because it’s not going to happen if you don’t go get it,” said 15 year old Caleb Wilkerson.

But of course, it is called summer vacation for a reason.

“It’s about having fun first. If you have fun I think the working hard and the exhaustion and the exercise will take care of itself,” said Monday.

There are summer camps for everything from baseball to ballet and everything in between. They are great ways to keep your kids active and healthy while they take a break from their normally scheduled school activities.
