NC company recalls frozen mini-eclairs over Listeria concerns

BATTLEBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A North Carolina company is recalling frozen mini-eclairs because they might be contaminated with Listeria, the FDA said.

Poppies International Inc. of Battleboro is recalling the Delizza brand of frozen Belgian custard cream mini-eclairs.

The recalled food was made from March 5 to 9 and has “the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes,” the FDA said.

The recall was a result of a routine sampling program by the company.

The eclairs that need to be recalled can be identified by the lot number (L1M1018 Best Before 09/09/19)  which can be found on the side of each tub by the lid.

So far, no illnesses or adverse health effects have happened from the food, the FDA said.

The FDA says Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the FDA said in a statement.

Any consumers who have purchased or received any of the products described below should immediately discontinue use of the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at info@delizza.us or 252-442-4016.
