Nearly 70 people rescued from rip currents along New Hanover County coast since Wednesday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The high rip current risk in place along the coast is living up to its name.

Numerous rip current rescues have been reported on Wednesday and Thursday at New Hanover County beaches.

20 people were rescued at Kure Beach on Wednesday, with 12 at Wrightsville Bach and around 10 at Carolina Beach.

Thursday brought 25 more rescues from Carolina Beach and two at Wrightsville Beach.

In all, nearly 70 people have been reported to have been saved from rip currents this week.

A high risk of rip currents is expected through Friday.
