New Hanover County Emergency Management provides update on storm preparations

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Emergency officials say the county’s Emergency Management Center has been operating since 7 a.m. Saturday as winter weather continues to move through the region, bringing a mix of precipitation and the potential for significant snowfall.
Jason Fuller, senior emergency management specialist, said during a Saturday Zoom briefing that while mixed precipitation has been observed so far, conditions remain consistent with National Weather Service predictions.
Fuller urged residents to stay mindful of previously issued safety messages, noting that weather conditions can shift quickly, both over time and even short distances.
Fuller said people need to remember that the conditions they see now could be different from what they could be in a short amount of time, adding that the county is well-prepared, with all storm preparations completed Friday ahead of the anticipated snow.
As for county operations, officials have not yet made decisions regarding potential closures or delays for Monday. Fuller said leaders will meet Sunday and provide updates during the 2 p.m. Zoom briefing.
