New Hanover NAACP meets before push for Sunday Voting
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The second weekend of the May primary is coming up.This time with a key Sunday voting day. The New Hanover NAACP wants to see voters at polls.
New Hanover County is one of the only Cape Fear counties to hold a Sunday voting at the Government center off of College Road.
The local NAACP tells us nearly 20 churches plan to take part in the “souls to polls” campaign to get voters to the ballot boxes.
Branch members want voters to take advantage of the voting day privileged or it may be taken away.
“The board of elections locally has the option of saying, ‘well you didn’t have that many people go out so maybe we shouldn’t allow you to have Sunday voting again,’ and we don’t want that to happen that’s why I am encouraging everyone to come out to vote 11 to 6 regardless of your political affiliation,” said chapter president Deborah Maxwell.
Polls will open Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m.
