The town of Surf City will not resume rebuilding dunes until November when hurricane season is almost over. Now some residents are concerned for their homes.

The Town of Surf City was expected to finish restoring their dunes by now, but work had to stop after crews were told to cease and desist.

Based upon the results received on the imminent critical areas from FEMA, the Town elected Friday to move forward 'as rapidly' as possible in addressing sand issues on the beach strand, according to Allan Libby, Director of Tourism and Public Information.

A proposed N.C. Department of Coastal Management (DCM) rule could soon allow the governments of Bald Head Island and Caswell Beach to put large sand bags on their coast.
