Authorities say three people were taken to a hospital after being struck by a vehicle that crashed through a barricade at a harvest festival.
The Cape Fear river shines bright as the centerpiece of a fall tradition in downtown Wilmington this weekend. Riverfest was postponed by heavy rains last month, but event Chairman Chris Snowden says the change means it is now bigger and better than ever.
Happening this weekend is the 35th Annual North Carolina Festival by the Sea in Holden Beach. The two days of festivities features arts and crafts, music, contests and activities for the whole family. Saturday is the only day of the year you can walk across the Holden Beach bridge to get the best view of the island. For the more adventurous there will be balloon rides and for anglers there is the annual fishing tournament. Events start Saturday at 9 a.m. and go through Sunday afternoon.

Change your latitude and your attitude at the opening night Parrot Head Pub and Grub Crawl that extends from the island to nearby Southport. The entire weekend is filled with events including horseshoe and cornhole tournaments, arts, food and drinks and live music.
