Pair from Port City Track Club leave track meet as National Champions and All-Americans
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A pair of young athletes competed on a national level in Virginia Beach this past weekend and left with some hardware.
The Port City Track Club competed in the AAU National Track and Field meet last weekend, with two of their athletes winning big. Kaleb Stubbs, a seventh-grader from Murray Middle School, became an All-American after finishing in seventh place in the 3,000 Meter run.
Cashmere James, a senior at New Hanover, became at two time National Champion after finishing first in the 60 and 200 Meter dash.
“For a 400, I just sprint as hard as I can and then beat them to the cones, and just hold that form. Then take it home from there,” said James when speaking on his process during running a race.
“Probably going to keep training until I get a National Championship gold medal. I think I’m going to be at like 15 at that point,” said Stubbs when talking about his future in track and field.
The last National Championship title for Port City Track Club was back in 2016. Adding these two recent championships gives them four national championships total.
