Planning a vacation this summer? Travel insurance might be an option for you
CAPE FEAR (WWAY) — Summertime is nearly here, prime time for people to head out on vacation. But with hurricane season here, you might need to think ahead.
Virginia resident David Duff is currently on vacation in Wilmington and made sure his trip was insured. He and his wife once had a trip impacted by Hurricane Hugo.
“Well, all you have to do is have a trip cancelled one time and lose that money. That’s all it takes to show you the advantages of travel insurance let me tell you, well worth it,” Duff said.
Katie Bates , a travel agent in Southport says you never know what can happen, so you might need to add travel insurance on top of the price of your trip.
“I’ve seen it all from hurricanes, you know people having to rearrange their trips, to unexpected flight delays, to people getting sick. One of the benefits of travel suppliers and the thing that they offer people is that travel protection.”
Travel insurance isn’t one size fits all. AAA spokeswoman Tiffany Wright says there are several different options.
“Maybe you’re looking for the type of travel insurance that, so you are looking for just medical. Maybe you’re looking for some of the travel insurance where you can have the option to cancel some on board excursions if you’re talking about cruises. I always want to get the anytime cancel insurance, I always want to be able to cancel at anytime.”
Wright added that AAA expects this summer to be the busiest they’ve had on record in terms of travel.
