WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Hotel Ballast in Wilmington, NC is getting ready to “Raise the Ruff” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Paws Place, a no-kill shelter for rescue dogs in Winnabow, NC.

A casino night fundraiser is scheduled Saturday, Mar. 9 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the hotel located at 301 N. Water St. in Wilmington.

WWAY evening news anchor Donna Gregory will serve as emcee for the event.

Paws Place is a non-profit shelter dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing dogs.

The organization is funded entirely through donations and volunteers help with operations and animal care.

Six years ago, Paws Place moved into its current facility on 17 acres of land in Brunswick County.

Amenities include:

  • 26 indoor kennels, each with its own outdoor run
  • 5 Quarantine Kennels
  • 3 + acres to walk dogs
  • A play pen for dog exercise
  • Facilities for staff including offices, laundry and a kitchen
  • Storage for pet bedding, toys, supplies and food
