Reddish moon caused by Canadian wildfires
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY ) — Did you notice the hazy, reddish sun/moon Wednesday evening?
Don’t call it a Blood moon. The reddish tint of the moon has to do with large wildfires burning in Canada.
Smoke has traveled 2,300 miles to the Cape Fear from Saskatchewan, Canada where fires are still burning and thousands of people have been evacuated.
The ashs about 15,000 feet above the ground and being projected south along a strong western ridge.
The smoke plume is so large that it can actually be seen on satellite images.
