Residents race to gas stations to fill up while they can

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Residents raced to the gas pumps Sunday, trying to fill up while they still can. But conditions on the roads continue to get worse.

The lines for gas at USA Murphy wrapped around the shopping center in Leland. People stocked up on gas while it is still available.

Some people are starting to get worried about what is going to happen. The rain continues to build and flood new areas. One resident on Lanvale Road says he is running out of options and resources.

“We heard earlier that they were giving out gas at the high school and we tried to make it there, and we couldn’t make it there. We ran out of gas. Like I said, we stopped at one of our friend’s houses on Magnolia Greens and he gave us a ride here. But we’re out of food, out of water, out of everything,”
said Gustavo Rengal.

Leland Police also stopped to fill up their tanks. Officers say they are responding to call after call, and they urge people to stay off the dangerous roads.
