Schools shift to remote learning, delay openings amid coastal storm

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — With a coastal storm bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and localized flooding to parts of the Cape Fear some schools made changes to Monday’s schedule.

Southeastern Community College announced they will be operating on a two-hour delay and are scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m. due to the inclement weather and dangerous road conditions.

Whiteville City Schools will have a remote learning day for students and run on a two-hour delay for staff.

Columbus Career and College Academy will operate on remote instruction for Monday.

Columbus County Schools already had a scheduled teacher conference day on the calendar for October 13th.

Columbus County Government offices will open at 10:00 a.m. to allow additional time for road conditions to improve and for crews to assess any overnight impacts.

In Bladen County, Emereau: Bladen will operate on a one-hour delay due to the amount of water on the roads. They say car drop-off will begin at 8:30am.

Officials urge people to stay off the roads.
