North Brunswick added to BB&T Jamboree

videoNorth Brunswick High School has been added to the BB&T Jamboree lineup next month at Legion Stadium. This means all three high schools in Brunswick County will be included along with the four high schools from New Hanover County, Whiteville, South Columbus and Wallace-Rose Hill in the high school football showcase. Signing day at Coastal Christian; Sharks now 0-3

videoCoastal Christian High School held a signing ceremony on Thursday for four student athletes. We have a full report on that. In baseball the season is still young, but the Wilmington Sharks are winless after three games in the Coastal Plain League.

South Columbus football player dies; Hoggard hoopster signs letter of intent

videoThe South Columbus High School community is mourning the loss of running back Cephus McGill. The sophomore died Sunday night. Hoggard senior basketball standout Trevor Singleton has signed on the dotted line to play college basketball. videoThe fourth season for Buzz Peterson as the UNCW men's basketball coach ended on Friday night. The Seahawks had a late lead against Hofstra, but UNCW wasn't able to hold on at the CAA Tournament. videoOn Tuesday we checked out practice at Trask Coliseum. Buzz Peterson and the UNCW Seahawks need to win four games over a four day stretch to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The odds are against the Seahawks, but stranger things have happened. The UNCW baseball team lost the final game of their west coast trip. On Tuesday we showcased former Hoggard pitcher Bryan Sammons. The lefty beat Clemson in his first career start. Regional play is underway for high school basketball. Check out our preview. videoThe pairings are set for the CAA Men's Basketball Championship in Baltimore. Buzz Peterson's squad will open against Hofstra on Friday in the unofficial play-in game. The seven other CAA teams won't hit the court until Saturday. The Region X Men's Basketball Championship also begins on Friday. Brunswick Community College is the host school. Plus more!

videoIt's heartbreak city for fans of New Hanover High. The Panther Creek boys basketball team stuck a dagger in New Hanover at the final buzzer to end the season for the Wildcats. WWAY was there for the dramatic finish. On Friday's Full Court Press we had extensive state playoff coverage from five different games: New Hanover's heartbreaking loss at the buzzer, West Brunswick's nailbiting victory over Southern Durham, a Trask come from behind win against Whiteville, East Bladen's come from behind thriller against Southern Vance and another nailbiter from East Columbus where the Gators won by one point.

WWAY's Full Court Press - Feb. 21

videoIt was a "Wildcat" type of night in basketball in the Mideastern Conference. Both the New Hanover boys and girls won tournament titles on Friday. In the Four County Conference East Bladen captured the girls title. Clinton won the boys title. We had highlights and post-game reaction from all four games on the Full Court Press. Check it out. It was a "Wildcat" type of night for former New Hanover swimmer Cari Blalock. Blalock won an event at the ACC Swimming & Diving Championship on Friday. Plus more!

videoVirginia's starting pitcher didn't give up a hit on Sunday afternoon against UNCW in front of a record crowd at Brooks Field. The Seahawks did manage to get a few hits off the relief pitchers of the nation's number one ranked college baseball team. Plus more!

Changes & postponements for local sports

Due to the severe weather several local athletic events will be shifted until later this week. We've updated the posted changes for high school hoops and college basketball as well. This includes a postponement involving the UNCW men's basketball team and Duke-UNC.

Another one gets away from Buzz & company

A comfortable lead certainly isn't a sure thing this season for the UNCW men's basketball team. The Seahawks let another possible victory slip away. UNCW led by 14 points at the half, but Hofstra ended up beating UNC Wilmington by double digits. Buzz Peterson's squad currently holds a school record 14 game losing streak. Cape Fear CC lost on Saturday too, but BCC won.

videoFriday's Full Court Press featured a come from behind victory by New Hanover against West Brunswick in a battle of first place versus second place in the Mideastern Conference. We had basketball coverage from Hoggard-Laney, Topsail-South Brunswick, Trask-Midway, North Brunswick-Dixon and East Columbus-Red Springs too. video13 is not considered to be a lucky number. Superstitious or not, 13 is now the losing streak for the UNCW men's basketball team after another tough loss at home against a conference foe. Laney hosted a special ceremony on Wednesday. Michael Jordan's replica jersey now hangs on the wall in Buctown, but the New Hanover Wildcats swept the action on the floor. Plus more!
