Leland Fire Rescue wins state paramedic competition

Members of the Leland Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department brought home top honors in a state paramedic competition. Paramedics Chris Watford and Michael Herbert won first place in the North Carolina Office of EMS Paramedic Competition at the NC Emergency Medicine Today conference in Greensboro.

National Guard confirms details of Wilmington soldier's death

The body of a Wilmington soldier killed in Afghanistan is back on American soil. Sgt. Thomas J. Butler IV’s body arrived at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware last night. Fellow service members made what the military calls the dignified transfer in the rain. There is no word yet on when Butler’s body will return to Wilmington.

video A Wilmington man is among three American soldiers killed in Afghanistan yesterday. Sgt. Thomas J. Butler, known as T.J., was killed in action. His body will arrive back in the United States tonight.

Dalton challenges McCrory to debates across NC this summer

In a press conference at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton today challenged his gubernatorial opponent Pat McCrory to a series of eight town hall debates on jobs and education to be held at community colleges in every region of the state.
