Several local school districts to start later Monday due to extreme cold

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — Several school districts in southeastern North Carolina will operate on a two-hour delay Monday due to expected freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chill conditions.
Columbus County Schools announced it will begin classes two hours later than normal because of low wind chill temperatures forecast for the morning hours. High school exams will continue as scheduled following the adjusted start time.
Whiteville City Schools will also operate on a two-hour delay Monday due to freezing temperatures and extremely low wind chill factors. Students and staff should report two hours later than their normal start time, and bus routes will also run two hours late.
Bladen County Schools also announced a two-hour delay for both students and staff Monday. School will dismiss at the regular time Monday afternoon.
District officials noted that Monday had originally been scheduled as an early release day, but that plan has changed. Early release schedules will resume Tuesday through Friday.
