Storms prompt warnings, few reports of damage
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Strong storms led to several severe weather warnings in southeastern North Carolina this afternoon and into the evening.
There were several reports of a funnel cloud in northeastern Brunswick County during a Tornado Warning just before 6 p.m., but there has been no confirmation of a tornado touching down or reports of any significant damage.
As night fell, another line of storms moving toward the coast prompted a brief tornado warning for parts of Robeson and Bladen counties. The National Weather Service received reports from Bladen County Emergency Management of some power outages in the county as well as a few trees down in Elizabethtown and Bladenboro. That same line of storms also led to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts western Columbus and Brunswick counties that expired a short time later.
Late Saturday night the National Weather Service in Wilmington said it would send teams to Brunswick and Robeson counties to investigate any possibly tornado damage.
