Surfing to raise money for Pleasure Island lifeguards
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A little rain didn’t stop this surf contest from happening Saturday.
Tony Silvagni Surf School hosted a surf contest on Halmet Avenue in Carolina Beach and contestants were surfing for a life-saving cause.
100% of the money raised goes towards the Carolina Beach and Kure Beach lifeguards.
Silvagni says the turn out and support was incredible.
“I have a lot of friends that are lifeguards and I wanted to help raise money to buy life saving boards. Life saving boards are the ones with the handles of the front and they are able to get to a distressed victim a lot faster that way,” said Silvagni.
Sponsors donated prizes such as gift certificates, surfboards, skateboards, and even jet skis for the contestants.
Almost 90 competitors competed and the top riders in each of the 15 divisions were awarded.
