TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Tabor City has declared a state of emergency based on the expected impact of Tropical Storm Debby.

According to a news release, the town is facing flash flooding, river flooding, and other extreme weather. With peak conditions for extreme weather expected to occur during the night of Wednesday, the town says it  is imposing a curfew to keep residents safe and lessen the strain on emergency services.

The curfew is from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.

The town says pedestrian traffic is restricted and vehicular traffic should be avoided unless absolutely necessary or related to essential personnel carrying out employment-related activities.

“Municipal and emergency services are strained more during disaster than at any other time. First responders may be unable to reach some areas and their response times
will be higher,” the release states. “This order is intended to minimize the number of potentially involved persons and eliminate the operation of motor vehicles in high winds and high or moving water.”
