#TBT: 112 years since the first flight
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today marks 112 years since the Wright Brothers took their historic first flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
In 1903, the innovative pair took to the skies in the first practical fixed wing aircraft. They chose Kitty Hawk for it’s wind conditions, soft sand, and, perhaps most importantly, privacy to keep the experiment away from public interference.
The model used on December 17 achieved four brief flights, one of which lasted for just under a minute and got up to 852 feet in the air.
