The Cross Creek hero

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — One Hampstead community was desperately in search of necessary supplies after their homes were left under 7 to 10 feet of flood waters.

Greg Lovell stepped up when the Cross Creek was calling for action.

Although the flood waters have receded, Lovell is still helping the community restore by driving around the community bringing cold drinks, ice and food right to the doorsteps of people who need them. Along the way, Lovell greets families he helped save throughout the disaster.

One emotional stop on his drive was met by a woman who jumped for joy when she recognized Lovell getting out of his truck. He called Lovell her “hero” as he lugged a big of ice up her driveway.

“We came to her with a full boat of people and I promised her that I would be back to get her,” said Lovell. “That was the first person we saved that was in a house and the look on her eyes when we said that we had to come back to get her I will never forget and I will never forget the hug she gave me because we got her out of here.”

Lovell says he is so thankful that over 300 volunteers have come out to support the restoring of this community.
