‘There will never be another’: South Columbus names new scorer’s table after Everlene Davis
Columbus County educator of 68 years has also kept score of every boys' and girls' basketball game
TABOR CITY, N.C. (WWAY) – For decades, youth in Columbus County can say they share a common bond with one beloved educator.
Everlene Davis is one of the biggest celebrities the county has to offer. The 90-year-old has received countless awards for her time in public instruction. Some say she was teaching even before she was a teacher.
On Thursday in between the two varsity basketball contests against West Columbus, Columbus County Schools administration of past and present honored Ms. Davis by dedicating the brand-new digital scoreboard in her honor. She has kept the scorebook for every year she has been with the Stallions and other schools in the county, missing only one season for personal reasons. Even at her age, her focus could still cut butter: her two eyes never leave the court or the three writing utensils – a black pen, red pen, and pencil – to account for every point, foul, turnover and beyond.
