Tillis, Burr seek answers for Wilmington VA water issues

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two senators are pressing for answers at the Wilmington VA clinic after months of water issues.

A VA spokesman says the clinic has not been able to use its water since March, because of an internal contamination in the pipes.

Senator Thom Tillis says he met with VA Secretary Robert McDonald Wednesday.

“It’s alarming that the issues at the Wilmington VA clinic continue to persist without an end in sight, affecting veterans who need essential health care services,” Tillis said. “Unfortunately, this is yet another example of the bureaucratic breakdowns and management issues that are plaguing the VA system. I met with VA Secretary Robert McDonald to discuss the need to completely rethink the VA’s approach to providing quality care for veterans and making the VA system more efficient and accountable to prevent these kinds of unacceptable internal issues.”

Senator Richard Burr also says he put in a request to the VA for answers about the issue.
