NC trooper released from hospital days after being shot

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — Officials say the North Carolina State Highway patrolman shot in the line of duty on Monday in Wilson County is now at home.

Trooper Daniel C. Harrell was shot in the face and neck during a traffic stop on Haynes Road in Wilson County. 

Harrell was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment, a hospital official said.

Harrell’s white cruiser appeared to have 12 bullet holes in the windshield and front-end damage.

He’s a five-year veteran assigned to Wilson County.

The Highway Patrol confirmed Harrell was released from the hospital Wednesday.

His family has asked for privacy.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
