Two from CFCC’s Women’s Basketball team receive honors from Region 10 Conference
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Region 10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, Region 10 Women’s All-Conference First Team and Region 10 Women’s All-Second team.
Just some of the accolades for Cape Fear Community Colleges Women’s Basketball team who finished the regular season 23-3. For player of the year Jaci Bolden, the award is something she’s worked quite hard for.
“It was always a goal of mine when I came here to Cape Fear and you know I put in the work every day, So I really didn’t expect anything less. It’s not possible without, you know my team at being that successful. You know, it’s not just about me as an individual, but it is a great accolade to have,” Bolden explained.
Bolden averaged more than 21 points per game this season, which helped earned her Region 10 All-Conference First Team and Region 10 Player of the Year
Her partner in crime is Khauri Little, who received Region 10 All-Conference Second Team honors, averaged almost 18 points per game and shot 36 % from the three point line. But it’s something she didn’t quite expect from herself.
“It feels good, I mean I never really thought that I could get to that point here in college as a freshman. I mean I’m shy, and I don’t like to, you know break out of shells. So for me, it’s really a big accomplishment,” Little said.
For first-year head coach Taylor Todd-Williams, this type of success is important for the continued building of her program and she appreciates the communities support.
“I think we’re still growing this thing. But even some of my neighbors came down, some people from the community, a lot our faculty and staff from our own campus came down more. Some people don’t even know that we have this gym. So, we’re getting a lot of respect from the community, it feels really, really good and I just hope we continue to build on it.”
CFCC will begin Region 10 Conference Tournament play on Thursday at Brunswick Community College where they are the #2 seed.
